A New Car Concept Developed with Stylistic Design Engineering (SDE)

Abstract: In this work, a structured design method, the Stylistic Design Engineering (SDE), isapplied for the construction of a new minivan car, in particular a new city car, which we will callFIAT 600 Omega. The SDE, or Stylistic Design Engineering, is a structured engineering method forcarrying out automotive design projects. The SDE method consists of six different phases: (1)Analysis of stylistic trends; (2) Sketches; (3) 2D Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings; (4) 3DCAD models; (5) Rendering; (6) Solid sty… Show more

“…The only necessary action is to push the handlebars, and the bicycle will close naturally. In order to achieve this, when assembling the spring in the frame, it is calibrated to respond to a certain Newton range [12][13][14][15][16].…”

“…Stylistic Design Engineering (SDE) is an industrial standardized procedure of product styling that was initially carried out by Eng. Lorenzo Ramacciotti, former CEO of Pininfarina Spa [51]. The purpose of this methodology is to organize the styling phase by dividing the workflow in six different steps: The case study was supported by a brief analysis of stylistic trends, assuming that a smart device which substitutes a traditional analogic cane should feel futuristic and advanced.…”

“…The Product Development phase ends with the optimization and redesign of the vehicle according to an aerodynamic study. Applied to the automotive sector, the SDE method [9,10] introduced the ability to digitally sketch the vehicle, which improves the classic freehand drawing of the vehicle. Once the satisfactory shape is found, both a 2D and 3D model are built.…”
