A New Bidirectional Wideband Circularly Polarized Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antenna using Modified J-shaped Ground Plane for WiMAX/LTE Applications

Abstract: A new singly-fed bidirectional wideband circularly polarized cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) using modified J-shaped ground plane is investigated and presented in this paper. The designed antenna excited by a single microstrip feed line with the modified Jshaped ground plane, which supports the orthogonal mode generation i.e. HEM 11δ mode for realizing circular polarization (CP). Measured results show that the proposed antenna achieved S 11 ≤-10 dB, input impedance bandwidth of 41.44% (centered… Show more

“…The AR bandwidth can be enhanced by a slight modification in the DR's shape, by loading a metal strip onto the DR, and adjusting the feed structure. Metal strip [42], microstrip feedline [43,44], coaxial probe [45][46][47][48], and aperture coupling [49][50][51][52] methods are commonly used in single-feed antennas. The selection of the feed arrangement may depend on the antenna's application.…”

“…Table 2 illustrates the comparison of the proposed UWB dual‐band CP DRA with other wideband CP DRA. CP DRAs have been introduced in References 14 to 27 In most of the cases, the impedance bandwidth and axial ratio bandwidth are much lower than the proposed antenna.…”

“…In Reference 18, it is seen that the antenna provides dual polarization impedance bandwidth covers only 17.2 and 17.9%. In References 20 to 23, the antennas provide only 37.29, 44.78, and 30.07% impedance bandwidth. The antenna achieves 41.41% impedance bandwidth.…”

“…Antenna operates at dual band 2.4-2.48 GHz and 5.25-5.85 GHz for WLAN and WIMAX. In [21] a cylindrical dielectric antenna with operating frequency at 3.75 GHz is proposed for WIMAX/WLAN applications. Reflection coefficient of -21.55 dB is observed at central frequency.…”
