A New Belief Entropy in Dempster–Shafer Theory Based on Basic Probability Assignment and the Frame of Discernment

Multi-source information fusion technology is a kind of information processing technology which comprehensively processes and utilizes multi-source uncertain information. It is an effective scheme to solve complex pattern recognition and improve classification performance. This study aims to improve the accuracy and robustness of exoskeleton gait pattern transition recognition in complex environments. Based on the theory of multi-source information fusion, this paper explored a multi-source information fusion model for exoskeleton gait pattern transition recognition in terms of two aspects of multi-source information fusion strategy and multi-classifier fusion. For eight common gait pattern transitions (between level and stair walking and between level and ramp walking), we proposed a hybrid fusion strategy of multi-source information at the feature level and decision level. We first selected an optimal feature subset through correlation feature extraction and feature selection algorithm, followed by the feature fusion through the classifier. We then studied the construction of a multi-classifier fusion model with a focus on the selection of base classifier and multi-classifier fusion algorithm. By analyzing the classification performance and robustness of the multi-classifier fusion model integrating multiple classifier combinations with a number of multi-classifier fusion algorithms, we finally constructed a multi-classifier fusion model based on D-S evidence theory and the combination of three SVM classifiers with different kernel functions (linear, RBF, polynomial). Such multi-source information fusion model improved the anti-interference and fault tolerance of the model through the hybrid fusion strategy of feature level and decision level and had higher accuracy and robustness in the gait pattern transition recognition, whose average recognition accuracy for eight gait pattern transitions reached 99.70%, which increased by 0.15% compared with the highest average recognition accuracy of the single classifier. Moreover, the average recognition accuracy in the absence of different feature data reached 97.47% with good robustness.

A New Evidence Weight Combination and Probability Allocation Method in Multi-Sensor Data Fusion

A single sensor is prone to decline recognition accuracy in the face of a complex environment, while the existing multi-sensor evidence theory fusion methods do not comprehensively consider the impact of evidence conflict and fuzziness. In this paper, a new evidence weight combination and probability allocation method is proposed, which calculated the degree of evidence fuzziness through the maximum entropy principle, and also considered the impact of evidence conflict on fusing results. The two impact factors were combined to calculate the trusted discount and reallocate the probability function. Finally, Dempster’s combination rule was used to fuse every piece of evidence. On this basis, experiments were first conducted to prove that the existing weight combination methods produce results contrary to common sense when handling high-conflicting and high-clarity evidence, and then comparative experiments were conducted to prove the effectiveness of the proposed evidence weight combination and probability allocation method. Moreover, it was verified, on the PAMAP2 data set, that the proposed method can obtain higher fusing accuracy and more reliable fusing results in all kinds of behavior recognition. Compared with the traditional methods and the existing improved methods, the weight allocation method proposed in this paper dynamically adjusts the weight of fuzziness and conflict in the fusing process and improves the fusing accuracy by about 3.3% and 1.7% respectively which solved the limitations of the existing weight combination methods.

Fault Root Cause Tracking of the Mechanical Components of CNC Lathes Based on Information Transmission

This study proposes a new method for the immediate fault warning and fault root tracing of CNC lathes. Here, the information acquisition scheme was formulated based on the analysis of the coupling relationship between the mechanical parts of CNC lathes. Once the collected status signals were de-noised and coarse-grained, transfer entropy theory was introduced to calculate the net entropy of information transfer between the mechanical parts, after which the information transfer model was constructed. The sliding window method was used to determine the probability threshold interval of the net information transfer entropy between the lathe mechanical parts under different processing modes. Therefore, the transition critical point was determined according to the information entropy, and the fault development process was clarified. By analyzing the information transfer changes between the parts, fault early warning and fault root tracking on the CNC lathe were realized. The proposed method realizes the digitalization and intelligentization of fault diagnosis and has the advantages of timely and efficient diagnosis. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by a numerical control lathe tool processing experiment.
