A New Arylnaphthalide Lignan From Oxalis corniculata

Abstract: A new arylnaphthalide lignan, corniculin (1), was isolated from 75% EtOH extract of Oxalis corniculata. Its chemical structure was determined by mass spectrometric analysis as well as 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).

“…Oxalis corniculata L., a member of the family Oxalidaceae, is a kind of wild vegetable and ethnomedicine in South China and is widely distributed in temperate zones in Europe, Asia, and America (Liu & Mark, 2008; Tibuhwa, 2016). It is rich in carbohydrates, protein, flavonoids, alkaloids, and saponins (Lei et al, 2021; Radha Kumar et al, 2021; Zhang et al, 2020), and has many biological and pharmacological activities, including anti‐oxidant (Zeb & Imran, 2019), anti‐bacterial (Mukherjee et al, 2013), hepatoprotective (Chen et al, 2018), anti‐tumor (Zhang et al, 2019), inhibition carbonic anhydrase and cholinesterase (Imran et al, 2020), and so on. Surprisingly, the aqueous extract from O. corniculata (OCE) has great potential for the medical industry because OCE silver nanoparticles have excellent antioxidant activity and dose‐dependently reduce the cell viability of the human colon cancer cell (HT29) and normal fibroblasts (L929) (Karimzadeh et al, 2019).…”
