A new and more precise experiment method for characterizing the mineralogical heterogeneity of unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs

Abstract: This study is aimed to introduce the new and more precise experiment method which could characterize the mineralogical heterogeneity of unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs. As the 2D characterization methods and techniques still have a large amount of information to be excavated with quite strong vitality, the new method could be used to discover the minerals directly under the FE-SEM combining with the EDS method after considering both the resolution (10 nm) and representativeness (20 mm). The higher the ra… Show more

“…It is a large multicycle craton basin with the occurrence of whole lift and depression migration, and the structure inside the basin is relatively simple. Abundant oil resources existed in the Upper Triassic the ultra-low permeability Yanchang Formation, which is part of a lake-delta sedimentary system (Du et al, 2018a and2018b).…”

“…At almost the same time point, based on the research of Du et al [22], Du et al [23] broadened the application scope of "Umbrella Deconstruction" for the first time. A kind of mineral named "calcite" with special geological and engineering significance is identified by combining the point measurement of Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS).…”

“…Moreover, compaction, deposition, and modification performances have primarily affected by the characterization of pore throats (Du et al, 2018a(Du et al, , 2019. A new experimental investigation which is named umbrella deconstruction has been used to measure the pore heterogeneity in microscopic scale for unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs.…”
