A New Active Power Controller in Dual Active Bridge DC–DC Converter With a Minimum-Current-Point-Tracking Technique

Abstract: This paper proposes a new controller for power regulation in dual active bridge (DAB) DC−DC converter based on a new scheme that tracks minimum RMS current to ensure minimum losses. The proposed controller is based on an implementation of perturb and observe (P&O) tracking method that enables minimum current point tracking (MCPT) at any desired level of active power transfer and DC voltage ratio. The P&O is embedded in a closed loop control scheme which simultaneously regulates active power in DAB converter. T… Show more

“…In this paper, the proposed method is based on the characteristics of the FSBB converter and combines the DAB control idea to make the FSBB operate in a three-mode operation and the modulation algorithm to find the efficiency extremes in this mode. 27 In conclusion, there are two requirements for FSBB in applied sectors like consumer electronics and solar energy systems. Firstly, the mode switching problem of FSBB should not affect the stability of the system, and secondly, FSBB converters can deliver high operational efficiency in a variety of operating modes.…”

“…In addition, some papers have proposed a wide band gap semiconductors 25,26 applied to the converter to reduce the losses starting from the losses of the switching materials. In this paper, the proposed method is based on the characteristics of the FSBB converter and combines the DAB control idea to make the FSBB operate in a three‐mode operation and the modulation algorithm to find the efficiency extremes in this mode 27 …”

“…In Zhu et al, 24 DPS control has been executed with the bi‐directional inner shift to improve the system stability under transient conditions using a look‐up table, but the controller requires more memory to inter/extrapolate the data. From 25–27 different optimization techniques have been proposed to control the power flow transfer between the H−bridges of the DAB converter. In Shi et al, 25 particle swarm optimization ( PSO) technique is used to minimize the reactive power flow into the system, but the controller requires complex converter modeling.…”

“…Others have also proposed a generalized per unit model for TPS control using the PSO algorithm to minimize the current stresses on the transformer side 26 . Hebala et al 27 have proposed ( P&O) based optimization algorithm to track the minimum current point in the DAB converter to transfer maximum power between the H‐bridges. Mostly all power electronic converters are non‐linear when their system parameters alter randomly.…”

“…In addition, a large number of components is needed. In the literature, phase-shift control is applied to control power flow between multiple active bridges coupled on HFT [22][23][24][25]. In this technique, external inductors are used for each port to allow for proper range of angle control.…”
