A network architecture providing host migration transparency

Abstract: The continued expansion of computer networks and the miniaturization of computers increase the desire to use one's computer in a consistent computational environment, regardless of location and time. In this situation, host migration transparency is very important. This paper introduces a new network architecture which provides host migration transparency in large interconnected networks and proposes a protocol based on the propagating cache method. We introduce the concept virtual network and divide the conve… Show more

“…Messages sent by an MH to another MH may have to be rerouted because the destination MH may be disconnected from the old MSS and connected to a new MSS. Many routing protocols for the network layer have been proposed [2], [26], [33] to handle MH mobility. It should be noted that disconnection of an MH is a voluntary operation [1], and frequent disconnections of MHs is an expected feature of the mobile computing environment.…”

“…As mentioned in section 1, previous works such as [2], [6], [7] and [8] are not appropriate for supporting mobile ESs in an area. In addition, mobile ESs should perform additional functions such as migration notification, hence they cannot be directly applied to the existing networks.…”
