Diversion of water for irrigation from the Yellow River has impacted groundwater quality in the North China Plain (NCP). In this study, by using geochemical and isotope methods, groundwater origin, the spatial distribution of trace metals, pollution sources, and health risks were evaluated. Groundwater is recharged from surface water. The primary pollution components in surface water were B, Al, Se, Zn, Mn, and Ni-with concentrations exceeding standards by 100%, 84.4%, 64.4%, 31.1%, 20%, and 2.2%, respectively. In groundwater, exceeding standard rates for those elements were 100%, 100%, 61%, 25.7%, 39%, and 4.9%, respectively. The spatial distribution of polluted metals in surface water and groundwater was correlated, indicating an irrigation-influenced spatial distribution of trace metals in the groundwater. The trace metals were introduced via anthropogenic and geogenic activities. Zinc poses the most serious non-carcinogenic hazard for local residents. The ingestion pathway is much more likely to lead to zinc toxicity than the dermal absorption pathway. The carcinogenic Cd and Pb could result in an increased cancer risk for individuals exposed to the water. Non-carcinogenic hazard and carcinogenic risk attributable to groundwater is serious in the regions traversed by the rivers in the study area.

A pesar del gran esfuerzo de investigación que se ha llevado a cabo sobre el tema de la valorización de residuos en materiales de construcción, no se han encontrado protocolos para evaluar de forma sistemática la viabilidad de un residuo para formar parte de una matriz de base cemento. Acometer esta parte es el objetivo de esta investigación, que presenta unas reglas generales para analizar la viabilidad del uso de residuos en la fabricación de hormigón. El procedimiento se ilustra con un ejemplo, obteniendo hormigón autocompactante (SCC) que incorpora un sedimento dragado de un puerto español. La razón para elegir sedimento dragado como residuo se debe a que las contribuciones en este tema se han centrado fundamentalmente en la reutilización de residuos industriales y de demolición, no siendo tan frecuente encontrar trabajos en los que se incorporen sedimentos dragados en la fabricación de hormigón, a pesar de la gran cantidad de sedimentos que se dragan cada año en el mundo. Se ha elegido SCC como ejemplo por las características del propio residuo, considerando además las características de este material como tecnología intrínsecamente amigable desde un punto de vista medioambiental: fluye bajo su propio peso, eliminando la necesidad de vibrado, lo que implica un considerable ahorro energético, de horas hombre y de tiempo de construcción. Adicionalmente, contribuye a un entorno laboral más saludable al eliminar el impacto del ruido y la vibración, que a su vez repercuten en un bienestar social al acortar y hacer menos molestos los periodos de obras.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.4995/HAC2018.2018.5637

This article presents some guidelines in order to analyse the feasibility of including a waste material in the production of a structural cementitious material. First of all, the compatibility of the waste with a cementitious material has to be assured; then, if necessary, a decontamination step will be carried out; after, decision on the type of material has to be taken based on different aspects, with special emphasis on the granulometry. As a last step, mechanical, environmental and durability properties have to be evaluated. Then the procedure is illustrated with a full example, obtaining a self compacting concrete (SCC) including dredged sediment taken from a Spanish harbour. RESUMEN:Directrices para evaluar la puesta en valor de un residuo en la fabricación de un material base cemento: producción de hormigón autocompactante a partir de sedimentos dragados. Este artículo presenta algunas directrices con el fin de analizar la posibilidad de incluir un material de desecho en la producción de un material base cemento estructural. En primer lugar, debe asegurarse la compatibilidad de los residuos con el material base cemento. Tras ello, si es necesario, se llevará a cabo la etapa de descontaminación del residuo. Después debe tomarse la decisión sobre el tipo de material a utilizar en base a diferentes aspectos, haciendo especial énfasis en la granulometría. Como último paso, deben evaluarse las propiedades mecánicas, ambientales y de durabilidad del producto final. El procedimiento a seguir se ilustra con un ejemplo concreto basado en la obtención de un hormigón autocompactante (SCC) incluyendo en su fabricación sedimentos dragados tomados de un puerto español.
