A Multilevel Dictionary for Model Management

Abstract: Abstract. We discuss the main features of a multilevel dictionary based on a metamodel approach. The application is an implementation of ModelGen, the model management operator that translates schemas from one model to another, for example from ER to relational or from XSD to object. The dictionary manages schemas and, at a metalevel, a description of the models of interest. It describes all models in terms of a limited set of metaconstructs. It describes all the schemas in a unifying model, called the supermo… Show more

“…For example, suppose that we have a user who expresses a request in order to merge two models into one. To achieve this, most of the model-based approaches such in [12], [13] and [14], use development models by putting the system offline, at first. Then they specify a set of correspondence or composition rules generally using the respective metamodels of the two input models.…”

“…The presented model-based approaches ( [12], [13] and [14]) solve the problem of integration of software components by using the first solution through the use of development models, therefore such approaches can be considered as proactive integration. But we found no approach carrying out this problem using runtime models.…”

“…MIDST dictionary includes a higher layer, a metalevel, which gives a characterization of the construct properties and relationships among them [2,5]. It involves few tables, each with few rows, which form the core of the dictionary.…”
