A multilayer personality model

Abstract: Virtual humans have been the focus of computer graphics research for several years now. The amalgamation of computer graphics and artificial intelligence has lead to the possibility of creating believable virtual personalities. The focus has shifted from modeling and animation towards imparting personalities to virtual humans. The aim is to create virtual humans that can interact spontaneously using a natural language, emotions and gestures. This paper discusses a system that allows the design of personality f… Show more

“…The PME model is a quite excellent basic framework for generating artificial emotions. This basic framework consists of a mood updating step and an emotion updating step, as shown in (1) and (2). In the mood updating step, the previous mood, m t , an amount of mood change by input Ψ m (·), and the internal updating by itself Ω m (·) are considered to generate the new mood m t+1 .…”

“…In Kismet's emotional architecture, emotion is a medium to construct a kind of social relationship through emotional expression [1]. Kshirsagar et al used the 'Multilayer Personality Model' to implement a virtual agent with artificial emotion [2]. A. Egges proposed the PME model to generate artificial emotion of conversational agents [3].…”

“…We now define the individual I t as a triple (p, m t , e t ), where m t represents the mood at a time t. We define mood as a rather static state of being, that is less static than personality and less fluent than emotions [8]. Mood can be one-dimensional (being in a good or a bad mood) or perhaps multi-dimensional (feeling in love, being paranoid).…”
