Digital forensic investigators are faced with multimedia retrieval and discovery challenges that require innovation and application of evolving methodologies. This work is made more difficult in critical infra-structure environments where the acquired evidence is in many formats, types and presentations. Penetration testing is one of the techniques used to focus an investigation and to target the potential case information from the vulnerability identification phase, through to the media identification phase. In this chapter a review of these processes is made and a framework example developed to show how the investigator discovers relevant evidence. The problem for the digital investigator is the vast array of media in which evidence is stored or transmitted. Some work is from live retrieval and others static. A framework of methods that is flexible and adaptable to the context of investigation is proposed and the discovery methods for multimedia environments elaborated.

Android işletim sistemin mobil işletim sistemi pazarına hâkim olması ile Android cihazlardan veri toplama yöntemi, mobil adli bilişim teknolojisi üzerine yapılan araştırmaların odak noktası olmuştur. Bununla birlikte, Android işletim sistemi sürümlerinin sürekli güncellenmesi ve güvenlik teknolojilerinin devreye alınması nedeniyle, mevcut veri toplama yöntemleri yeni Android mobil cihazları desteklememektedir. Bu sorunu çözmek için Android akıllı telefonların donanım ve yazılım güncelleme protokollerinin analizi ile özel kurtarma görüntüleri yüklemeye dayanan yeni adli kopya alma yöntemleri geliştirilmelidir. Ancak bu yöntemlerin yeni riskleri de beraberinde getirdiği bilinmeli ve işlemler sırasında gerekli önlemlerin alınması gerekmektedir. Bu çalışmada daha önce geliştirilen adli bilişim inceleme süreçlerine katkı yapabilmek için yeni bir süreç tanımlama modeli geliştirilmiştir. Bu amaçla mobil cihazların üzerindeki ekran izlerinden desen ve pin tespitine yönelik çalışmalar ile ilişkili yeni bir süreç model önerisi sunulmuştur. Geliştirilen model ile adli bilişim analizlerinin elde etme aşamasında şifreli olduğu için adli kopyası alınamayan mobil cihazların şifre ve pin tespitini mevcut yöntemlerin dışında tespit edilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Ayrıca çalışmanın analiz aşamasında ortaya çıkan şifrelenmiş verilerin şifrelerinin çözülmesine katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.

Memory contains vital information about the current state of a system such as processes, network connections and opened files. The contents of a file can be reconstructed from memory either by following the Operating System's data structures (which might not be always available) or by carving data based on the file's internal structure. Unfortunately, the problem gets more complicated when carving several files with the same internal structure that happen to coexist in memory. This paper carves chunks of a certain file type from memory and employs clustering techniques to distribute these chunks into their corresponding files. As a running example, we carve and cluster different PDF files. The paper employs the wording similarities among related portions and shows that the Hierarchical clustering algorithm facilitates grouping of the recovered text pieces within an adequate accuracy.
