A multicenter randomized controlled trial to assess the efficacy of cancer green therapy in treatment of stage IIIb/IV non-small cell lung cancer

Abstract: Background: Chemotherapy is the main therapy for stage IIIB/IV non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the 5-year survival rate is 6%. Cancer Green Therapy is a novel therapy in China, which refers to cryoablation combined with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula. Our previous retrospective analysis showed that patients with NSCLC had longer survival time and better quality of life after receiving cryoablation combined with TCM formula, compared with patients who received chemotherapy … Show more

“…In a number of malignancies, decreasing tumor burden through cytoreductive cryoablation can have positive effect on survival. In particular, studies have demonstrated that cryoablation leads to better survival in patients with metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma ( 22 ), lung cancer ( 23 ), and melanoma ( 24 ), on top of strengthening tumor response to systemic therapy. Several studies have reported synergies between cryoablation and immune response.…”

“…In China, green cancer therapy is a new form of treatment that combines CA with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Sun et al reported that this approach improved survival time and quality of life for patients with stage IIIb/IV NSCLC compared with chemotherapy alone, providing a novel treatment strategy for patients with advanced cancer (88). A previous study also reported the efficacy of CA combined with TCM in treating elderly individuals or those with advanced lung cancer (89).…”

“…A new freeze-thawing model was used during lung tumor cryoablation: 5 min freezing, 3 min thawing, 10 min freezing, 3 min thawing, 10 min freezing. This new model is used to generate interstitial fluid in adjacent lung tissue, which further forms a ball of ice into the lung, thereby increasing the ablation range of lung tumors ( 27 ).…”
