This study designed three different types of sports bras based on the physiological characteristics of female upper bodies. The dressing pressure, skin temperature, and shaping support effectiveness of one subject when wearing those sports bras were evaluated under static and dynamic states. The results indicated that all designed bras illustrated excellent pressure comfort. Regarding the thermal comfort and shaping support performance, sports bras B2 and B3 with further optimizations had improved performances compared to B1. Besides, it was found that the skin temperature would increase with the dressing pressures from sports bras. The increased but comfortable dressing pressure could also benefit the shaping and support performance of sports bras. B22 and B33 had superior support performance to B1, with excellent ability to lift and gather the breasts, and to retract the waist. In summary, optimized sports bras with a cross, hollowed-out, and split design could effectively meet body comfort needs.

A mellek természetes módon nagyon kevés támogatást kapnak, mivel a mellizmok (pectoralis izom) előtt helyezkednek el anélkül, hogy az izmokhoz, vagy erős szalagokhoz kötődnének, és maguk sem tartalmaznak izomszövetet. A melleket leginkább a bőr tartja, ill. támasztja alá, míg az ún. Cooper-szalagok (vékony szerkezetek) a mell tejtermelő részeit védik, de az emlőt nem emelik és tartják. Az emlő támasztásának hiánya, szükségessé teszi megfelelő védőviselet (melltartó) kiválasztását, hogy megelőzze annak visszafordíthatatlan károsodást, különösen az intenzíven sportoló nők esetében. Célunk, a megfelelő tartást és védelmet biztosító melltartóhasználat áttekintő összefoglalása volt a nemzetközi szakirodalom alapján. A Pubmed keresőjében „breast support”, „sports” és „bra fit” kulcsszavakkal megjelent cikkek alapján összefoglaltuk a témában megjelent kutatási eredményeket. Különböző mértékű védelem szükséges, a különböző sportokban A nem megfelelő méret, anyag, típus kiválasztása miatt, előfordul, hogy sok női sportoló nem kap elég mell-védelmet, ezért szükségük lenne megfelelő tanácsadásra és oktatásra. A mell mozgáscsökkentését leginkább szolgáló melltartó tulajdonságok: a kosaras (kapszulás) vagy kombinált melltartó kialakítás, a párnázottság, a főleg nylonszál tartalmú alapanyag, az állítható alsó pánt és a magasan záródó nyakkivágás. Ezen jellegzetességek figyelembevétele elősegítheti a sportág- és egyén-specifikus sportmelltartók tervezését. Összefoglalva, a megfelelő sportmelltartónak fontos szerepe van a mell sportolás során történő mozgásának mérséklésében, a mellfájdalom elkerülésében és a mell aszimmetria helyreigazításában. Az egyes sportágakra jellemző speciális mozgás, a test-test elleni küzdelem, a mell-jellegzetességek és egyéb szempontok miatt – a jövőben – a tömeggyártott egyen-méretek helyett, az egyénre és sportágra szabott 3D melltartó nyomtatására lesz szükség.

Insights into breast health issues in women's rugby

World RugbyTM supports dedicated women's welfare, injury surveillance and medical/technical interventions, yet breast health has received limited attention. This article aims to provide insights into breast health issues in rugby, including breast impacts and injuries. We discuss how breast anatomy and position may be problematic in rugby. Breast volume relates to body size, which may be increasing in women's rugby, suggesting increased breast surface area and mass, potentially increasing injury risk. Breast health issues in rugby have been reported previously, with 58% of contact footballers (including rugby) experiencing breast injuries. There are damaging effects related to these breast health issues, with breast impacts often causing pain and swelling. Breast impacts may lead to haematomas, cysts and fat necrosis which can calcify over time making them difficult to distinguish from breast carcinoma, causing further investigation and anxiety. In sport, poor bra fit and insufficient support are associated with pain, skin strain and performance decrements. This article reports the potential implications of these breast health issues on performance in rugby. Recent breast‐related projects supported by rugby communities may address recommendations identified in the literature for robust breast injury classifications, updated injury surveillance systems and prospective data collection on breast injury prevalence, severity and impact in rugby. These data should inform breast injury care pathways and intervention research, including evidence‐based bra design. Understanding the implications of breast impacts on tissue properties, health and wellbeing is vital. Finally, data should inform rugby‐specific breast education, raising awareness of this aspect of athlete health.
