A Multi-Sensor Based Roadheader Positioning Model and Arbitrary Tunnel Cross Section Automatic Cutting

Abstract: Autonomous posture detection and self-localization of roadheaders is the key to automatic tunneling and roadheader robotization. In this paper, a multi-sensor based positioning method, involving an inertial system for altitude angles measurement, total station for coordinate measurement, and sensors for measuring the real-time length of the hydraulic cylinder is presented for roadheader position measurement and posture detection. Based on this method, a positioning model for roadheader and cutter positioning i… Show more

“…In response to the issue of pose perception for the boomtype roadheader, numerous research institutions both domestically and internationally have conducted highly effective studies on inertial navigation, laser targeting, ultra-wideband (UWB), indoor Global Positioning System (iGPS), and total station [8][9][10][11]. Tao et al [12] proposed a measurement method using iGPS to determine the body pose of the boom-type roadheader, allowing for single-station multi-point measurements in a time-sharing manner.…”

“…the most difficult thing in such a working, and more precisely in the face, is to transport and install the elements of the roadway support [3] due to very little free space (fig. 1) [4,5]. this applies to all types of supports, mainly the yielding arch support type ŁP [6,7].…”

“…J. Yang [22] proposed a vision/odometer/inertial navigation dynamic pose integrated measurement method and corrected the measurement value of inertial navigation/odometer with reference to the vision measurement results. Yan [23] proposed a pose detection method of roadheader based on multi-sensor fusion, and on this basis, studied the automatic cutting method of arbitrary roadway sections.…”
