A Multi-Objective Stochastic Model for an Earthquake Relief Network

Abstract: Earthquake relief network involves storage and distribution of relief aid to people in need. In this paper, a new stochastic multi-objective mixed integer mathematical model is developed and implemented in Kadikoy municipality of Istanbul, Turkey in order to configure part of the earthquake relief network. The aim of the model is to help decision makers decide on the locations of storage areas for shelters pre-earthquake and distribution of shelters from these areas to temporary shelter areas post-earthquake w… Show more

“…This area of research can be classified as shelter-site location problem, warehouse location problem and emergency medical location problem [ 37 ]. Various studies considered the problem of infrastructural damages aftermath of a disaster and developed models to select temporary housing site [ [37] , [38] , [39] , [40] , [41] , [42] , [43] ]. Supplying relief item is another humanitarian logistics problem extensively studied by OR community [ [44] , [45] , [46] , [47] ].…”

“…In recent years, researchers have put forward different views in solving the problem of disaster relief materials 21 . Yenice et al 22 designed a novel stochastic multi‐objective stochastic mathematical model of earthquake relief network to solve the delivery of disaster relief materials problem, which helps the decision‐makers obtain the location information of the rescue materials storage, the delivery of the refuge area before and after the earthquake to the temporary refuge area, and minimize the earthquake scenario specification, the total expected distribution distance and the total expected earthquake damage risk coefficient. Zhan et al 23 took the shortest time for evacuating people as the objective in typhoon disaster relief to fully play the limited vehicle resources.…”
