A Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis for Selecting Waste Composting Technology in Makassar, Indonesia

Abstract: The city of Makassar is in a coastal area. Cambayya village in Makassar is densely populated and has complex waste problems. Limited land access and narrow road access make it difficult to transport waste. People’s habit of throwing garbage into the sea leads to the accumulation of garbage on the coast of Cambayya and causes various forms of environmental pollution. A form of waste management that uses composting methods is needed to handle organic waste. This study aims to find an alternative piece of compost… Show more

“…It should be noted that the core competencies were evaluated differently for each DC solution, these being home composting, community composting, or communal composting [50]. As noted in the discussion, the qualitative analysis path reveals both the root problems and the core competencies related to the implementation of DC projects, thus proving to be a powerful tool aiding decision making in the implementation strategies and action plans for sustainable organic waste management.…”

“…It should be noted that the core competencies could be evaluated differently for each DC solution, such as home composting, community composting or communal composting [46]. As can be seen in the discussion, the qualitative analysis path enables to reveal the root problems and the core competencies for the implementation of DC projects; forming a powerful tool enabling decisionmaking to implement strategies and action plans for improving sustainable organic waste management.…”

“…The biggest challenge faced in coastal waste management in Makassar is the need for more infrastructure and resources. Population growth and industrialization have led to an increased influx of waste materials, most of which end up in the surrounding coastal waters (Yunus et al, 2020). Due to inadequate waste management infrastructure, this material must be properly collected, treated, or disposed of, leading to significant environmental and health concerns.…”
