A moving mesh finite volume interface tracking method for surface tension dominated interfacial fluid flow

Abstract: a b s t r a c tThis paper describes a moving mesh interface tracking method implemented in OpenFOAM for simulating three-dimensional (3-D) incompressible and immiscible two-phase interfacial fluid flows with dominant surface tension forces. Collocated finite volume (FV) method is used for spatial discretisation of Navier-Stokes equations on moving polyhedral mesh. The mesh consists of two parts separated on interface. Fluid flow is solved on each mesh separately and coupling is accomplished in an iterative man… Show more

“…The basic algorithm for tracking the MB interface is described by Tukovic and Jasak (2012) and was employed for modelling the interaction of multiple MBs by Wiedemair et al (2014). This IFT algorithm is extended and generalized by the introduction of viscoelastic shell properties that scale with the dynamic size of the MB during oscillation.…”

“…The solution procedure relies on an interface tracking approach (Tukovic and Jasak 2012) to determine the exact position of the MB interface assuming zero mass transfer across Γ b . The sharp delineation of the MB interface is essential for accurate evaluation of Eq.…”

“…Among them, the discretization error is generally the largest one. The analysis of discretization error is even more vital in free surface simulations [1,2] such as bubble in the water, vessel with blood etc. Because cell size and cell shape is always changing which would lead to a varied discretization error.…”
