A Motif for Infinite Metal Atom Wires

Abstract: A new motif for infinite metal atom wires with tunable compositions and properties is developed based on the connection between metal paddlewheel and square planar complex moieties. Two infinite Pd chain compounds, [Pd 4 (CO) One-dimensional infinite metal-metal-bond compounds, [1] also known as metal atom wires, or metal atom chain complexes, have attracted much attention for their potential electronic, [2] magnetic, [3] and photoluminescent [4] applications. So far, the majority of such compounds re… Show more

“…The mechanical property of these multilayered Pd nanosheets was determined to show more plastic deformation than the bulk in response to an applied force. Experimental data and a DFT simulation indicate that complexes of Pd cations with carbonyl and carboxylic acid-containing surfactants could be the likely intermediates . The difference in adsorption between the complex and pure CO gas on various Pd surfaces resulted in favored growth along the [110] directions and inhibition on the (111) planes.…”
