A More Biomimetic Cell Migration Assay with High Reliability and Its Applications

Abstract: Cell migration refers to the directional movement of cells to the surrounding cell-free zone in response to chemical and mechanical stimuli. A cell migration assay is an essential device for studying pharmaceutical and medical problems. In this paper, we present a novel approach to a cell migration assay on a chip with two merits, namely (i) simultaneous creation of many cell samples on the same condition and (ii) cells migrating while being stressed in a fluidic environment. The first merit has addressed the … Show more

“…ATCA was used to analyze the scanned images of HUVEC under different shear stress in cell migration assay. The simulation results were introduced to screen the samples with shear stress error less than 10% [12] . Figure 6 shows the cell migration area under shear stress of 0, 1 and 4 dyne/cm 2 in 24 hours.…”

“…In future work, achieving full automation and fast data collection will also enable many samples to be collected in a single device under the same conditions, which will allow thorough evaluation of the reproducibility of biological data collected in OOC studies. In a recent study, large sample sizes collected under controlled conditions enabled evaluation of data reproducibility for a cell migration assay 50 .…”

“…Alternatively, researchers have also applied migration assays without injury as a comparison. Injury-free assays such as cell stamping, Figure 1c, provide a baseline cell migration that may be affected by factors outside of wounding ( Yin et al, 2022 ), for example, exposure to diabetic conditions. Sano et al conducted a scientific investigation to examine the impact of fluctuating oxygen environments on the progression of wound healing in a murine model ( Sano et al, 2012 ).…”
