“…P. micropapillosa has a well-developed furca, and is relatively large with a rounded carapace; thus, it is possibly more closely related to the subfamilies Cyprinotinae, Eucypridinae, Cypricercinae and Cypridinae than to other Cyprididae subfamilies. As P. micropapillosa has similar possible gland openings on the upper lip, as found in Heterocypris salina (Brady, 1868) and Heterocypris oblonga (Sars, 1924) (see Smith, in press), it is tentatively placed in the subfamily Cyprinotinae. A more certain determination is not possible without comparisons of other taxonomically important structures, such as the furcal attachment, that have not been found preserved in P. micropapillosa.…”

“…The type-species of Pseudocythere, P caudata Sars, 1866, was first described from Norwegian waters and subsequently reported from British localities (Brady, 1868 ;Brady & Norman, 1889) and further afield . Miller's (1894) record from the Bay of Naples has been questioned by several authors, and the form was described as a new subspecies, P caudata mediterranea, by Bonaduce et al (1980) .…”
