A Møller polarimeter for high energy electron beams

Abstract: A single arm M ller polarimeter used to measure the longitudinal beam polarization of the 48 GeV electron beam for SLAC xed target experiment E 154 is described. The polarimeter utilizes an array of silicon strip detectors and a dipole magnetic spectrometer to detect M ller scattered electrons from magnetized Fe-Co alloy target foils. The details of the foil polarization measurements and analysis technique are discussed. The high statistical precision of the M ller data and the stablity of the SLAC polarized s… Show more

Precisions down to 0.5% can be reached [87] .…”

“…The MCA was calibrated using Cs-137 which has two internal conversion electron peaks at 624 keV and 655 keV which were detected in a 300 µm thick Silicon detector, thus 1 with threshold voltage of 50 mV and amplifier gain of 20 Schematic for characterization of detector prototype Response of prototype diamond detector assigning an energy value to each channel number of the MCA. Thereafter, the position of the Sr-90 peak in the diamond detector was identified to correspond to 8858 electrons per MIP (Figure 3.9).…”

“…These include dead-time due to the hold off period in the DAQ that was introduced to match the shaping time of the readout electronics, the pseudo tracking algorithm used to identify electron tracks through the set of four detector planes and the trigger formation. Attempts were made to directly measure the inefficiency using the traditional method of varying 1 for opposite helicities …”
