The term job analysis is sometimes used to describe task analysis.3 There are several reasons that one might undertake task analysis 2–4 . For nurse‐midwives, some of these reasons include: Evaluating patient care given by nurse‐midwives; demonstrating the value and amount of service provided by nurse‐midwives; developing curriculum; demonstrating the need for additional educational services; developing requirements for certification or recertification; developing valid tests to meet the needs of educational programs, certification, or federal guidelines; determining the amount of time spent in job activities; compiling accurate job descriptions; recruiting and placing new personnel; evaluating job performance; planning for allocation and/or expansion of personnel; obtaining cooperation from management or other health professions or agencies to provide or expand services or benefits; and educating the public.…”
