A modified self‐controlled case series method to examine association between multidose vaccinations and death

Abstract: The self-controlled case series method (SCCS) was developed to analyze the association between a time-varying exposure and an outcome event. We consider penta- or hexavalent vaccination as the exposure and unexplained sudden unexpected death (uSUD) as the event. The special situation of multiple exposures and a terminal event requires adaptation of the standard SCCS method. This paper proposes a new adaptation, in which observation periods are truncated according to the vaccination schedule. The new method exp… Show more

“…Authors should report this issue and the potential impact on results. Specificity of case-only design planning in pharmacoepidemiology remains an issue to be discussed and investigated thoroughly in the future [25], [27], [29][31]. We also found that results reporting often lacks key elements and impedes the assessment of the internal validity of the case-only analyses.…”

“…This explains sudden death from snake bites [321,322], vaccines [323][324][325][326][327][328][329][330][331][332][333], and cocaine [215], in otherwise healthy people, as examples. Depending on their surfactant property and their position within the Hofmeister series, environmental biological or chemical intoxicants of virtually any type can provide the EIWS to induce SDS.…”

“…Researchers in Italy [92] report that the first vaccination carries an increased risk to SIDS in infants. In [93], through statistical analysis based on 300 cases of unexplained sudden death, a 16-fold increased risk was determined following the fourth dose in a series of vaccinations. In [94], it was reported that the observed rate of anaphylaxis following administration of the HPV vaccine to females aged 12 to 26 was significantly higher than the rate observed following other vaccines.…”
