Summary
Four groups of foals, each of 6 animals, were delivered by mares vaccinated during pregnancy against equine herpesvirus type 1 (EHV‐1) infection. The foals of two groups were immunized intramuscularly twice with live attenuated EHV‐1 vaccine. In the 1st group immunization was started when the foals were 3—4 months old, whereas in the 3rd group the first vaccination was performed at up to 3 weeks. The foals of the 2nd and 4th groups, corresponding in age to the vaccinated animals, served as controls.
The humoral immune response was measured by the complement fixation test (CFT) and passive immunity was additionally evaluated by the serum‐neutralization test (SN). The cell‐mediated immune response was examined by the leukocyte migration inhibition test (LMIT). Circulating B and T lymphocytes were also enumerated.
There were no differences in the humoral and cellular immune response between foals vaccinated during the first 3 weeks of life and those immunized at of 3—4 months. In both groups the cellular response appeared 10—20 days after the 1st vaccination, whereas the humoral response was found on the 10th day after revaccination. In both groups of vaccinated foals the immunization had no influence on the counts of circulating B and T lymphocytes.

Humorale und zellvermittelte Immunantwort von Fohlen nach der Immunisierung mit attenuiertem equinem Herpesvirus Typ 1 (EHV‐1)
4 Gruppen von Fohlen mit je 6 Tieren wurden untersucht. Alle Fohlen stammten von Stuten, die während der Trächtigkeit gegen Equines Herpesvirus Typ 1 (EHV‐1) vakziniert worden waren. 2 Gruppen wurden zweimal intramuskulär mit attenuierter EHV‐1 Lebendvaccine immunisiert. In der einen Gruppe erfolgte die Erstimmunisierung im Alter von 3—4 Monaten, in der anderen in den ersten 3 Lebenswochen. Die beiden anderen Gruppen ent‐sprechenden Alters dienten als Kontrollen.
Die humorale Immunantwort wurde mittels Komplementbindungsreaktion (KBR) und die passive Immunität zusätzlich im Serum‐Neutralisationstest (NT) bestimmt. Die zellvermittelte Immunantwort wurde mit dem Leuko‐zyten‐Migrations‐Hemmungstest (LMIT) untersucht und außerdem die Anzahl der zirkulierenden B und T Lymphozyten ermittelt.
Weder in der humoralen noch in der zellulären Immunantwort konnte ein Unterschied zwischen den in verschiedenem Lebensalter vakzinierten Gruppen festgestellt werden. In beiden Gruppen erschien die zelluläre Immunantwort 10—20 Tage nach der Erstimmunisierung, während die humorale Antwort am 10. Tag nach der Revakzinierung auftrat. In beiden Gruppen vakzinierter Fohlen zeigte die Immunisierung keinen Einfluß auf die Anzahl der zirkulierenden B und T Lymphozyten.
