A modified cascaded h-bridge multilevel inverter based on particle swarm optimisation (PSO) technique

Abstract: <span>In this paper, modified multilevel inverter, via addition of an auxiliary bidirectional switch, based on Newton Raphson (NR) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) techniques is presented. The NR and PSO techniques were employed for selective harmonics elimination (SHE) solution in a modified Cascaded H Bridge Multilevel inverter (CHB-MLI). The Selective Harmonic Elimination Pulse-Width Modulation (SHE-PWM) is a powerful technique for harmonic minimization in multilevel inverter. The NR and PSO tech… Show more

“…To prevent the particle from driving too far away, we can adopt a velocity bound to keep it in the interval of and , which are system parameters. All particles try to improve the performance of PSO by updating their velocity and position according to personal best and global best, and changing other parameters in different acceptable areas [23,24].…”

“…Apart from the conventional two-level inverter, the application of multilevel inverter (MLI) in PV system has gained a huge interest due to its many advantages, such as a lower rating component usability, better quality of output waveform and higher efficiency [13]. Several types of multilevel inverter are available and among them, the cascaded H-bridge MLI with much simpler topology has been widely discussed and applied such as in the optimization of component number and voltage supply [14], utilization of multicarrier modulation technique [15] and modified phase-shift PWM scheme [16], as well as application in standalone PV inverter system [17].…”

“…The modulation technique significantly affects the power quality of the inverter output voltage. There have been many modulation solutions published, in most these solutions, the control signals are compared directly with the carrier waves that have not been modulated [12][13][14][15][16]. Due to the independence between the carrier wave and the control signal, this makes the carrier wave not contain information of any quantities.…”
