A Modified Approach in Substrate Preparation Technique for Small Scale Oyster Mushroom Farming

Abstract: Aims: Cultivation of oyster mushrooms has increased vastly in a global scale during last few decades. Contaminants and indigenous microflora present in the substrate may led to the low productivity of mushrooms. “…Few reports in the literature inform the chemical composition of SMS and which mushroom species it was produced (Rinker, 2017). Some works that produced different Pleurotus strains, different raw materials and concentrations of SMS in the substrate reported productivities and biological e ciency equal to or higher than the substrate without the addition of SMS (Royse, 1992;Siddhant, 2009 previous works showed that it was possible to use SMS of Lentinula edodes in the substrate to produce P. ostreatus. In view of the above, the present study sought to increase the productivity and biological e ciency of Pleurotus ostreatus supplemented with Lentinula edodes' SMS, in addition to understanding the nutritional dynamics of the main nutrients consumed.…”
