A modified AD-TRIZ hybrid approach to regulation-based design and performance improvement of ballast water management system

Abstract: This paper presents a novel methodology in the design and performance enhancement of a regulation-compliant Ballast Water Management (BWM) System, where three methodologies were integrated in the process. The application of the multi-functional framework of classical Axiomatic Design (AD) in developing a design matrix was firstly modified using the influence of the Software-Hardware-Environment-Liveware interaction concept to factor all the system's interacting elements into the solution design. The BWM Conven… Show more

“…Although TRIZ is a powerful tool for design conceptualization, it does not seem to be able to establish the key issues of innovation, nor does it provide a method for evaluating alternatives ( 126 ). Therefore, in many studies TRIZ is used in combination with other methods, such as QFD ( 127 , 128 ), Axiomatic Design ( 129 ), Text Mining ( 130 ), Genetic Algorithm ( 130 ) TOPSIS ( 115 ), DEMATEL ( 131 ) and fuzzy theory ( 126 ), as a more complete framework in the innovation process. Few studies have integrated TRIZ with EGM and QTT1 to study preference-based design.…”

“…The problem of environmental pollution is one of the problems of many countries today. The Vietnam Sea connects the Pacific Ocean and An Duong Duong, acting as one of the major navigable highways, of which about 70% are oil tankers and oil products [4]. Annually, about 200 million tons of oil are transported through the waters off Vietnam from the Middle East to East Asia.…”
