A Modern Computer Application to Model Rare Earth Element Ion Behavior in Adsorptive Membranes and Materials

Abstract: The following paper offers a modern REE 1.0 computer application designed to model the behavior of REE ions in adsorptive materials and membranes. The current version of the application is based on several models, such as the Lagergren pseudo-first order, pseudo-second-order and Elovich kinetic models, and the intraparticle diffusion model, the diffusion-chemisorption model, and the Boyd model. The application has been verified on a sample of four different types of adsorptive materials and membranes. The prop… Show more

“…As it follows that adsorption process could be controlled by several mechanisms, such as fast saturation sorption on the exterior surface of adsorbents, relatively longer contact time to diffuse the pores of adsorbents to achieve equilibrium and followed by the coordination reac of functional groups. To analyze the obtained data, the authors used the REE 2.0 REE_isotherm computer applications specially created for this purpose, and more tailed information about them can be found in a previous publication [43].…”

“…As it follows that the adsorption process could be controlled by several mechanisms, such as fast saturation adsorption on the exterior surface of adsorbents, relatively longer contact time to diffuse into the pores of adsorbents to achieve equilibrium and followed by the coordination reaction of functional groups. To analyze the obtained data, the authors used the REE 2.0 and REE_isotherm computer applications specially created for this purpose, and more detailed information about them can be found in a previous publication [43]. It should be noted that, in all the cases, the experimental data from the adsorption analysis showed a better fit to the pseudo-second order Lagergren model, which indicates the presence of Nd and Y ions in the chemical coordination processes on the IIPs membranes.…”

“…The analysis of the processes in which the minerals or waste containing thorium are processed shows that the classic technologies have material losses in the environment, which could be reduced with or through membrane techniques [ 232 , 233 , 234 , 235 , 236 , 237 , 238 , 239 , 240 , 241 , 242 , 243 , 244 , 245 , 246 , 247 , 248 , 249 , 250 , 251 , 252 , 253 , 254 , 255 ]. “…The problem of thorium separation, concentration and recycling can be approached by analyzing some of the contributions that offer both priority research directions and viable technical solutions ( Table 6 ) [ 232 , 233 , 234 , 235 , 236 , 237 , 238 , 239 , 240 , 241 , 242 , 243 , 244 , 245 , 246 , 247 , 248 , 249 , 250 , 251 , 252 , 253 , 254 , 255 ].…”
