A Moderated Mediation Model of Factors Influencing Intention to Adopt Cryptocurrency among University Students

Blockchain (BCT) is an emerging technology that promises many benefits for organizations, for instance, disintermediation, data security, data transparency, a single version of the truth, and trust among trading partners. Despite its multiple benefits, the adoption rate of BCT among organizations has not reached a significantly high level worldwide, thus requiring further research in this space. The present study addresses this issue in the Australian context. There is a knowledge gap in what specific factors, among the plethora of factors reported in the extant literature, affect the organizational adoption of BCT in Australia. To fill this gap, the study uses the qualitative interpretative research approach along with the technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework as a theoretical lens. The data was mainly drawn from the literature review and semi-structured interviews of the decision-makers and senior IT people from the BCT adopter and potential adopter organizations in Australia. According to the findings, perceived information transparency, perceived risks, organization innovativeness, organization learning capability, standards uncertainty, and competition intensity influence organizational adoption of BCT in Australia. These factors are exclusively identified in this study. The study also validates the influence of perceived benefits and perceived compatibility on BCT adoption that are reported in the past studies. Practically, these findings are helpful for the Australian government and public and private organizations to develop better policies and make informed decisions for the organizational adoption of BCT. The findings would guide decision-makers to think about the adoption of BCT strategically. The study also has theoretical implications explained in the discussion section.

The Effect of Perceived Vaccination on Students’ Online Learning Intentions: A Moderated Mediation Model

The current study proposed and tested a moderated mediation model to reveal the effect of perceived vaccination (PV) on students’ online learning intentions (SOLI) during the COVID-19 pandemic. A questionnaire was distributed to 663 full- and part-time students at Vietnamese universities, and 632 responses were analyzed. SPSS 20 software and Hayes SPSS Process Macro (model 5) were used to test five hypotheses, all of which were supported. The study found that students’ online learning intentions decreased after being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and that perceived invulnerability played a mediating role in the relationship between perceived vaccination and students’ online learning intentions. The study also revealed that student age moderated a negative association between perceived vaccination and online learning intention, as this negative relationship was stronger for younger students than for older students. Theoretical and practical implications from our research contribute recommendations for governments, policymakers, and educators to consider adjusting educational management strategy, as well as adopting appropriate forms of learning in different epidemic contexts and vaccine coverage rates.

The Effects of Basic Psychological Needs, Task–Technology Fit, and Student Engagement on MOOC Learners’ Continuance Intention to Use

Massive open online courses (MOOCs) continue to remain in the spotlight as a promising future education environment. However, more than 80% of learners stop learning before attending one-third of the course. Despite a continuous spread of MOOC and high dropout rate, little has examined the antecedent factors that influence student engagement in technology enhanced MOOC learning environment from the Job Demand-Resources (JD-R) model. The purpose of this study was to empirically identify the effects of individuals’ basic psychological needs and the task–technology fit on MOOC learners’ continuance intention to use, as well as the mediating effect of student engagement in MOOCs. Based on survey data from 201 Korean-MOOC learners, structural equation modeling was employed to assess the model. The findings are as follows: The basic psychological needs in MOOCs did not directly affect continuance intention to use, but did affect student engagement; the task–technology fit of MOOCs directly affected continuance intention to use and student engagement; and student engagement in MOOCs mediated between the basic psychological needs and task–technology fit, and continuance intention to use. It directly affected continuance intention to use. Implications were suggested for designing courses in MOOCs to increase student engagement for continuance intention to use.
