A modeling strategy for integrated batch process development based on mixed-logic dynamic optimization

Abstract: This paper introduces an optimization-based approach for the simultaneous solution of batch process synthesis and plant allocation, with decisions like the selection of chemicals, process stages, task-unit assignments, operating modes, and optimal control profiles, among others. The modeling strategy is based on the representation of structural alternatives in a state-equipment network (SEN) and its formulation as a mixed-logic dynamic optimization (MLDO) problem. Particularly, the disjunctive multistage model… Show more

“…With regard to the definition of bank insurance, various scholars have conducted a full range of discussions. Some scholars in the United States have defined bank insurance as an organization that crosses shares held by banks or their branches, banks and insurance companies, operates insurance products with asset management functions, cross-markets, or sells any products that banks and insurance products can bring or service [1]. According to Munich Re Group in a 2001 report "Bank Insurance in Practice", bank insurance refers to provide insurance and banking products and services to the same group of customers at the same time through a common sales channel [2].…”

“…The importance of variable processing times has also been highlighted in previous works. For instance, Moreno-Benito et al 12 studied an industrial-size batch copolymerization process to produce an acrylic fiber with a specific composition and quality. For this problem, an adequate selection of processing times was detrimental to generating a polymer that satisfies quality requirements, e.g., an adequate molecular weight distribution.…”

“…Thus, a wide range of important low-volume and high-value-added products are manufactured in a batch mode, including specialty chemicals, materials for microelectronics, pharmaceutical, agricultural and biochemical product, etc. (Jin, et al, 2014;Moreno-Benito, 2014).…”
