A Model to Explain the Observed Tendency to Aggression in University Students

Abstract: Some approaches in psychology (e.g. Psychoanalysis) define aggression as an inborn behavior while some others (e.g. Behaviorism) define it as an acquired behavior. However, today it is a more widely admitted idea that aggression is a product of heredity-environment interactions and it has a relation with different psycho-social variables. It is observed that aggression was tried to be explained by more basic research models in previous studies. In this study; however, it was preferred to form a complex model t… Show more

“…Several previous studies have focused on the role of age, gender and culture on forgiveness and vengeance (Cota-Mckinley, Woody, & Bell, 2001;Miller, et al, 2008;De Young, 2009;Kumar & Dixit, 2014;Ayten & Ferhan, 2016). Results of some previous studies (Bugay, 2010;Kumar & Dixit, 2014;Camadan & Yazici, 2017) showed no gender and culture influence on perfectionism, forgiveness and resilience among Indian youth. De Young's ( 2009) study showed that men endorsed significantly higher levels of both revenge and dispositional forgiveness than women and emphasis that that as people grow older they develop a greater tendency to forgive.…”

“…Among the independent variables, the component of social adjustment had the important role in the prediction of happiness among the students. Camadan & Yazici (2017) examined the relation between the tendency to aggression, perfectionism, forgiveness and coping with stress in Turkish university students. Results showed that aggression is explained significantly by the variables of perfectionism (β=.13; p<=.001), forgiveness ((β=-.40; p<=.001), and negative and passive coping (β=17; p<=.001).…”

“…One further definition is given by [5], which focuses on how the existing context should tell students to appreciate and understand the chemical contribution to their lives and provide a way to gain a better understanding of the world, thereby specified explicitly as following: the lesson units should begin with the aspects of student life, which they experience either personally or through the media, and should introduce ideas and concepts only to the needs of students. Difficulties in applying acquired knowledge and little interest in scientific studies have been quoted as one of the leading challenges in science (chemistry) teaching [6,7,8].…”
