“…It is this prediction of likely returns that will influence potential farmers' perception of the attractiveness of cassava farming. Inegbedion and Aghedo (2018) used dynamic programming to predict replacement time of vehicle fleets. Inegbedion and Obadiaru (2018) used Markov chain analysis to predict the ultimate market shares of GSM companies in Nigeria while Asaleye et al (2018) modelled financial development, manufacturing sector and sustainability.…”

“…This study adopts de Waal and Whiteside's (2003) “new variant farming” theory as its framework. de Waal and Whiteside (2003) highlight four factors consistent with Inegbedion and Aghedo (2018) that characterize those affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic to be: (1) “Household labour shortages; (2) Loss of assets and skills due to adult mortality; (3) The burden of care for sick adults and orphans and (4) The vicious interactions between Malnutrition, HIV infection and progression.” The combined impact of the highlighted factors may undermine the effectiveness of the strategies available to prevent or cope with the threat of famine, or these coping strategies may be rendered inapplicable or dangerous to forestall food insecurity in the short-run. Food insecurity may then degenerate into famine on the long-run and households affected by AIDS face outright starvation.…”

“…The type of school (public or private) and classes of students were measured on a categorical scale. Measurement of realised teaching time and time utilisation are both ratio, consistent with Inegbedion and Aghedo (2018) while the measurement of type of school is nominal.…”
