A model-based architecture for interactive run-time monitoring

Abstract: We present a model-based architecture for monitoring executions of models of real-time and embedded systems. This architecture is highly configurable and allows for the combination of various run-time monitoring tools, not only for observing the system execution, but also for interacting with it. Using a variety of case studies, we illustrate the use of the architecture for connecting the code generated from a model with a range of external tools for different purposes, including execution animation and run-ti… Show more

“…A model-based architecture for interactive run-time monitoring has been proposed (Hili et al, 2020) that leverages modelbased techniques, model-to-model transformation, and automated code generation. Its focus lies on supporting runtime monitoring activities for real-time and embedded systems and it does not adapt monitors based on different states of the system.…”

“…Hili et al propose an approach for interactive monitoring of real-time and embedded systems modeled using UML Real-Time (UML-RT) [17]. Their approach enables different external components such as tools for data collection, animation, simulation, analysis, adaptation, and control to monitor the execution of the code generated from a UML-RT model.…”

“…Hojaji et al [59] surveys the existing work in the context of model execution tracing. Examples of existing work and MDD tools supporting trace analyses via code instrumentation include [60], [61], [62], [63], [64], [65]. For instance, Iyengar et al [63], [64], [66] propose an optimized model-based debugging technique for RTE systems with limited memory.…”
