“…In this section, we present the conceptual model we developed for performing a governance-based analysis of autonomy levels for CPSs within CPSoS. This model builds on our previous work [4], and extends it with concepts for modeling governance within CPSoS. The meta-model of our conceptual model is shown in Figure 2, where we can identify a CPSoS that integrates CPSs.…”

“…In a previous work [4], we advocated that coordination among CPSs can be achieved by adjusting the autonomy level of some CPSs in a way that allows them to perform their activities without endangering other CPSs that are operating in the same environment. Although several researchers have suggested adjusting the autonomy level of a system based on various criteria such as its capability, motivations, behavior, etc.…”

“…To tackle these challenges, we have previously proposed a model-based approach for modeling and analyzing the autonomy levels of CPSs 4 .…”

“…The approach offers a conceptual model and a UML profile for modeling the autonomy levels of CPSs, and it also proposes constraints expressed in Object Constraint Language (OCL) 9 for the verification of such models. In this paper, we initially build on 4 but we bring significant updates and additional contributions. The most notable novel contributions are that i) we refine the conceptual model with an augmented categorization of autonomy concepts, ii) we consequently adjust the UML profile and we re-design its application to a use case on autonomous driving, and ii) we implement such use case in a simulator, namely the Carla simulator 44 .…”
