A minor sudden stratospheric warming with a major impact: Transport and polar processing in the 2014/2015 Arctic winter

Abstract: Stratospheric transport and polar processing during the 2014/2015 Arctic winter were strongly influenced by a minor sudden stratospheric warming (SSW) in early January. “…SFW takes place almost during March to May in the NH every year. The onset dates of the two warming events are in middle‐to‐late March; thus, the SFW in 2015 spring is relatively early, which is closely related to only a minor SSW in 2014/2015 winter (Manney et al, ) since SFWOD tends to be earlier without a major SSW in winter (Hu et al, ; Labitzke, ). The earlier the SFW occurs, the more influence the PW has on it (Hu et al, ).…”
