Abstract. Despite a considerable research effort towards system support for smart spaces, in recent years we have been witnessing a growing perception about a persistent gap between the promises of the area and its real achievements. We are investigating a situation-aware system support for smart spaces that builds on a new set of assumptions and design principles, based on user-controlled associations between global services and local resources. The realisation of this concept raises important challenges across a model for global autonomous applications that enables them to integrate the functionality and resources of multiple situations. This research work aims at investigating such a model and evaluating the concept of situation-aware system support for smart spaces.

Abstract.Since the context plays a significant role in ubiquitous computing environment, many researches have studied about context-awareness system to improve the performance. An efficient learning mechanism is in importance of context-aware system, but there are seldom algorithms focused on convenience of systems by elaborating the learning mechanism with user's context information. As one of the most adaptable algorithm, Back Propagation provides us favorable inference capability. In this paper, we concentrate on improving the predict ability and reducing the system workload by proposing improved selfadaptive back propagation algorithm. The middleware we proposed improves the predicate capability. Thus, the overall performance becomes better than other systems. By adding system cache to middleware, it is possible for the context-aware system to act faster and improve the workload efficiency. Experiments show that there is an obvious improvement in overall performance of the context-awareness systems.

Abstract. In this paper, we propose a simulator for facilitating reliable and inexpensive development of ubiquitous applications where each application software controls a lot of information appliances based on the state of external environment, user's contexts and preferences. The proposed simulator realistically reproduces behavior of application software on virtual devices in a virtual 3D space. For this purpose, the simulator provides functions to facilitate deployment of virtual devices in a 3D space, simulates communication among the devices from MAC level to application level, and reproduces the change of physical quantities (e.g., temperature) caused by devices (e.g., air conditioners). Also, we keep software portability between virtual devices and real devices. As the most prominent function of the simulator, we provide a systematic and visual testing method for testing whether a given application software satisfies specified requirements.
