A middleware infrastracture for building mixed reality applications in ubiquitous computing environments

Abstract: Mixed reality is one of the most important techniques to achieve the vision of ubiquitous computing. Traditional middleware for mixed reality provide high level abstraction to hide complex algorithms for analyzing video images, but applications programmers still need to take into account distribution and automatic reconfiguration when developing mixed reality applications for ubiquitous computing. Our middleware infrastructure hides all the complexities to build mixed reality applications for ubiquitous computi… Show more

“…Ref. [105] employed the Corba-based-middleware to display media information based on the user's location. The middleware facilitates the configuration and connection of the components to allow the selection of the best tool to display media.…”

“…In a common structure, users involve different messaging through middleware modules because of processing on different servers; therefore, these servers need to be installed on the same local network to achieve an acceptable response time; however, modern structures will facilitate the process [104]. The improvement in middleware helps support real-time capability for video streaming [105]. The improvement in middleware helps implement interactive middleware that supports media services [108].…”

“…The ubiquitous computing has environmental problems such as wireless channel fading and mobility. As these problems have possibilities to affect the performance of a network and application, it is often proposed that quality-ofservice (QoS) be handled at the ubiquitous system software level (Tokunaga et al, 2004).…”
