The present study proposes a simple fuzzy PID controller combined with directional tuning control for regulating the output voltage of a wireless power pick-up. The output voltage is controlled by changing the equivalent inductance of a magnetic amplifier by a suitable value. Accurately determining the step-size of the inductance variation is an important task of this research to enable satisfactory control. The proposed controller essentially regulates the output power with logical step changes of the inductance of the magnetic amplifier, which allows the power pick-up to achieve full-range tuning/detuning operation in maintaining the output voltage to be constant. The effectiveness of the proposed controller has been verified by simulation study under a variety of conditions, and superior results have been obtained compared to a classical directional tuning controller which modifies the equivalent inductance by a fixed step-size.
