The French project Data to Knowledge in Agronomy and Biodiversity (D2KAB) will make available a semantically-enabled French agricultural alert newsletter. In order to describe/annotate crop phenological development stages in the newsletters, we need a specific semantic resource to semantically represent each stages. Several scales already exist to describe plant phenological development stages. BBCH, considered a reference, offers several sets of stages –one per crop called ‘individual scales’–and a general one. The French Wine and Vine Institute (IFV) has aligned several existing scales in order to identify the most useful grapevine development stages for agricultural practices. Unfortunately these scales are not available in a semantic form preventing their use in agricultural semantic applications. In this paper, we present our work of creating an ontological framework for semantic description of plant development stages and transforming specific scales into RDF vocabularies; we introduce the BBCH-based Plant Phenological Description Ontology and we illustrate this framework with four scales related to grapevine.

Sustainable agriculture is crucial to society since it aims at supporting the world's current food needs without compromising future generations. Recent developments in Smart Agriculture and Internet of Things have made possible the collection of unprecedented amounts of agricultural data with the goal of making agricultural processes better and more efficient, and thus supporting sustainable agriculture. These data coming from different types of IoT devices can also be combined with relevant information published in online social networks and on the Web in the form of textual documents. Our objective is to integrate such heterogeneous data into knowledge bases that can support farmers in their activities, and to present global, real-time and comprehensive information to researchers. Semantic technologies and linked data provide a possibility for data integration and for automatic information extraction. This paper aims to give a brief review on the current semantic web technology applications for agricultural corpus, then to discuss the limits and potentials in construction and maintenance of existing ontologies in agricultural domain.

En l’absence de thésaurus spécialisé dans le domaine de l’agroécologie, un groupe métier aux compétences complémentaires (experts scientifiques et spécialistes de l’information scientifique et technique) a construit un « thésaurus d’agroécologie ». Ce thésaurus est issu de la valorisation de l’ensemble des termes capitalisés par le dispositif de veille territoriale Agroécologie conduit à l’échelle de la région Midi-Pyrénées sur la période 2013–2017. L’ensemble des données constitutives de ce thésaurus est accessible sous Licence Ouverte et dans un format standard. Exposé sur différents portails de vocabulaires généralistes ou thématiques, ce thésaurus pourra être réutilisé à d’autres fins. Cet article décrit la méthodologie de constitution, le contenu et la structuration de ce thésaurus ainsi que son potentiel de réutilisation. L’originalité de ce travail est de reposer sur une expertise scientifique conduite à partir des termes d’usage des opérateurs du monde agricole et agro-alimentaire. La méthode proposée peut être réemployée pour construire des thésaurus sur d’autres domaines émergents.
