“…Molybdenum absorption from an aqueous solution was between 84 and 98% (Cantone et al, 1997;Giussani et al, 2006). Food matrix was observed to affect molybdenum absorption (Cantone et al, 1997;Giussani et al, 2006;Turnlund et al, 1999;Werner et al, 1998), with a decrease of between 16 and 43% observed with solid food compared with molybdenum delivery in an aqueous solution.…”

Black tea was identified as an inhibitor of absorption by two of the studies, reducing absorption by a factor of between 5 and 10 (Giussani et al, 2006;Werner et al, 1998).…”

“…Using isotopically labelled foodstuffs (wheat, kale and soybeans) and measurements of isotope excretion, Turnlund et al (1999) determined molybdenum absorption in a group of young women to be between 60 and 90%. Cantone et al (1997) used plasma isotope enrichment, analysed by a simple two-compartment model, to calculate molybdenum absorption following an oral dose of either 95 Mo or 96 Mo. The 1 mg isotope doses were given on an empty stomach, and the calculated value of fractional molybdenum absorption from two volunteers was 0.53 and 0.57 (Cantone et al, 1993).…”

“…Investigations on three healthy volunteers have been carried out in order to study the intestinal absorption and biokinetics of molybdenum in different administration forms and the dependence on the administered mass (Cantone et al 1995(Cantone et al , 1997a(Cantone et al , 1997bGiussani et al 1995;Giussani 1997). Isotopic solutions of 95M0 and 96M0 were prepared from metallic powders as described in Cantone et al (1995).…”

“…Urinary excretion seems to regulate rapidly the body content of molybdenum, and its pattern is independent of the administered form (injection or ingestion, extrinsic or intrinsic tracer). More details on the single experiments may be found in the cited references (Cantone et al 1995(Cantone et al , 1997a(Cantone et al , 1997bGiussani et al 1995).…”
