A Methodology for Anatomic Ultrasound Image Diagnostic Quality Assessment

Abstract: Abstract-This paper discusses methods for assessment of ultrasound image quality based on our experiences with evaluating new methods for anatomic imaging. It presents a methodology to ensure a fair assessment between competing imaging methods using clinically relevant evaluations. The methodology is valuable in the continuing process of method optimization and guided development of new imaging methods. It includes a three phased study plan covering from initial prototype development to clinical assessment. Re… Show more

“…To this end it is essential to ensure that reviewers of ultrasound images or system assessors are independent. In many studies it will be essential to have some objective judgements of the diagnostic accuracy of telesonography: a protocol for the objective evaluation of this is recommended by Hemmson et al [ 84 ]. Investigative operating environments should replicate the environments used in practice.…”

“…With the development of society, in recent years, the incidence of breast diseases in my country has been increasing, among which malignant breast tumors are more serious [ 1 , 2 ]. This disease has a major impact on women's health and gradually develops towards younger age [ 3 , 4 ]. This study will use the comparative method to compare clinical case diagnosis and ultrasound imaging [ 5 , 6 ].…”

“…Such raw data storage capacity makes it possible for researchers to conduct in vivo studies with OPs by acquiring multibeat in vivo data [110] and storing these data sets for offline processing. No restrictions are then enforced on the complexity of the processing, and the image videos can later be evaluated by medical doctors for multiple patients in double blinded trials as described in [111] .…”
