A Method of Leukocyte Segmentation Based on S Component and B Component Images

Abstract: A leukocyte segmentation method based on S component and B component images is proposed. Threshold segmentation operation is applied to get two binary images in S component and B component images. The samples used in this study are peripheral blood smears. It is easy tō nd from the two binary images that gray values are the same at every corresponding pixels in the leukocyte cytoplasm region, but opposite in the other regions. The feature shows that \IMAGE AND" operation can be employed on the two binary image… Show more

“…As we all know, the ROI regions are composed of leukocyte nucleus region (L 1 ) and leukocyte cytoplasm region (L 2 ), and the background regions are composed of background with erythrocyte region (L 3 ) and background without erythrocyte region (L 4 ) as shown in Figure 1 So we can segment the leukocyte nucleus regions using OS method. 15 On the basis of large numbers of experimental analysis, when the OS method is used to segment the leukocyte nucleus, the segmentation result is efficient in most instances. However, when the blood smear is dyed lightly, it will result in over-segmentation or undersegmentation by directly using the OS method.…”
