A Method for Calculating Elliptic Gear Transmission Efficiency Based on Transmission Experiment

Abstract: Transmission efficiency is an important index to evaluate the transmission performance and energy consumption of gear transmission systems. To analyse the transmission efficiency of elliptic gears, the load torque fluctuation model of elliptic gear is established to analyse the influence of load torque of an elliptic gear transmission system on the torque of input and output. The torque data of input and output under different working conditions are obtained by conducting an elliptic gear transmission test. Fi… Show more

“…A large number of experiments show that the windage loss becomes significant with the increase of gear speed [3]. When the linear velocity of the gear is greater than 50 m/s, the windage power loss caused by hydrodynamic behaviour must be paid sufficient attention [4] to [6]. Handschuh [7] pointed out that when the linear velocity of the gear reaches 125 m/s, the windage loss of the gearbox accounts for about half of the load-independent power loss and can dominate other loss mechanisms.…”

“…Liu et al [22][23][24] proposed a new method to effectively reduce the flow pulsations of a highorder elliptical gear pump by using a variable angular velocity drive, which substantially attenuates the low-frequency, large-amplitude flow pulsations generated by the noncircular rotor. Dong et al [25,26] analyzed the effects of excitation frequency, damping ratio, time-varying meshing stiffness, and internal excitation on the dynamic response of an elliptical gear train to investigate the torque fluctuation and transmission efficiency of non-circular gears. Gao et al [27] developed a torsional dynamics model of non-circular gear pair based on the lumped parameter method and analyzed the effects of parameters such as eccentricity, torque, external excitation, and load on the vibration instability of the system.…”
