A Meta-Analysis of the Impact of Problem Posing Strategies on Students’ Learning of Mathematics

Abstract: This is a review of experimental research in which students have been taught to pose mathematical problems as a means of developing their learning. Hence, the aim of the research is to combine the empirical evidence regarding the functionality of problem posing strategies and to explore the aspects which could influence the integration of problem posing in mathematical education. In this direction, a metaanalysis approach was utilized in this study. 20 experimental research published between years of 2000 and … Show more

“…At work Nissim Sabag (2017) underlined that any engineering curriculum should include a large amount of mathematics study to enrich the engineer's tools (Avigad, 2021). The authors Kul & Çelik, S. (2020) prove the influence of solving mathematical problems on the development of students' thinking.…”

“…Then, analyze publication bias, it is definitely necessary in meta-analysis studies [32]. Publication bias was used to examine whether there is a tendency of journals to publish only significant studies, leading to meta-analysis that did not represent the population [2,3].…”

“…Different techniques should be applied to determine publication bias and to estimate the degree to which it affects results [33]. As a result, initially the Funnel Plot approach was applied to analyze publication bias about literature contained in the meta-analysis [32]. There is no publication bias if the study effect size distribution is symmetrical between vertical lines [2].…”

“…Recognizing the impactful role of teachers, this study aims to unravel the diverse approaches employed by grade 7 educators. Examples encompass the integration of physical activities [40], using multiple representations in mathematics instruction [16], employing problem-solving strategies [24], utilizing computer-aided teaching methods [44], incorporating video and computer games [9], adopting collaborative learning approaches [10], fostering mathematical discussion and interaction [35], and addressing specific contexts such as learning disabilities [5].…”
