A Medley with over ten years of (mostly) light-ion production measurements at The Svedberg Laboratory

Abstract: Abstract.Over the past years an experimental programme has been run at the neutron beam of The Svedberg Laboratory with the aim to study light-ion production induced by 96 and 175 MeV neutrons for a wide variety of targets. The measurements have been conducted using the Medley facility which allows measurement of p, d, t, He-3 and alpha production at fixed angles (from 20 to 160 degrees in steps of 20 degrees) over a wide dynamic range. An overview of the results obtained at the now finished campaign at 96 MeV… Show more

“…For this, we will use the white neutron beam that is to be produced via the C(d,n) reaction and will allow accessing a neutron energy region stretching from about 1 to 30 MeV. The measurements are planned with an upgraded version of Medley [15,16] which will include PPAC detectors with good time resolution to determine the energy of the neutrons impinging on the sandwich target. The target is planned to consist of three layers: 235 U, CH 2 , and 238 U.…”

“…The Medley setup which has been used earlier at 96 and 175 MeV quasi-mono-energetic neutron energies [3][4][5] will have to be upgraded to cope with the continuous energy spectrum. Medley consists of a chamber about 1 m in diameter with eight detector telescopes at adjustable distances (typically ∼15 cm from target) and viewing angles ( Fig.…”

“…The experimental setup, called Medley [1], is planned to be used to measure neutron-induced fission cross sections and light-ion production in two different experimental campaigns at the Neutrons For Science (NFS) facility [2]. Although the experiments share parts of their setups and share some experimental conditions, they also differ in some important aspects and are therefore to be regarded as two separate experiments.…”

“…Medley has previously been used with quasi-monoenergetic neutron (QMN) beams at the The Svedberg Laboratory (TSL) facility [4] measuring light-ion production on, e.g. C, O, Si, Fe, Pb at 96 MeV [1,5] and C, O, Si, Fe, Pb, Bi at 175 MeV [1,6]. In the energy-region above 14 MeV to a few tens of MeVs little data exists.…”
