Hy het aan die Universiteit van Pretoria gestudeer en het die grade B.Sc (met lof), M.Sc (met lof) en D.Sc aldaar verwerf. Hy het ook aan daardie inrigting sy beroepsloopbaan begin as lektor en later senior lektor, voordat hy in 1968 by die R.A.U. as professor aangestel is. Sy hoof navorsingsrigting was op daardie stadium nieparametriese statistiek en hy het meer as dertig artikels in internasionaal erkende tydskrifte gepubliseer. Hy was ook betrokke by 'n groot verskeidenheid konsultasieprojekte. Hy het aan die einde van 2001 afgetree en het daarna 'n aanstelling aanvaar as Spesiale Professor met die oog op die voortsetting van sy navorsing. Sedert sy aftrede spits hy hom toe op die ontwikkeling van prestasiemaatstawwe in krieket, waarin hy reeds agt navorsings-en talle populêre artikels gepubliseer het. HOFFIE LEMMER currently holds an appointmentas an Emeritus Professor at the University of Johannesburg. He studied at the University of Pretoria and obtained the B.Sc (cum laude), M.Sc (cum laude) and D.Sc degrees at this university. He also started his academic career at the University of Pretoria as a lecturer and was subsequently promoted to senior lecturer at the same institution. In 1968 he was appointed as professor of statistics at the R.A.U. His main research interest at the time was non-parametric statistics and he published more than thirty papers in international journals. He was involved in many consultation projects. He retired at the end of 2001, after which he was offered the position of Special Professor at the University of Johannes burg, in order to enable him to continue his research. Since his retirement his research has focused on the development of cricket performance measures. Thus far he has published eight research papers and many popular articles in this fi eld. Abstract-Now a day Cricket is one of the most popular sports around the world. Twenty-20 cricket is the most popular entertaining game in last eight to ten years among different formats of cricket. Indian Premier League (IPL) plays vital role to upturn the status of Twenty-20 cricket. This paper aims to analysis the team performances during first six sessions of IPL in the field of sports Data Mining. The proposed work deals with five different multi-criteria techniques and two group decision analysis in fuzzy environment to handle the imprecise and ambiguous data. The result shows that proposed model yields more realistic way to judge the team's performance and every time it produces the accurate performance appraisal.

Abstract. Predicting the outcome of a game using players strength and weakness against the players of the opponent team by considering the statistics of a set of matches played by players helps captain and coaches to select the team and order the players. In this paper, we propose a supervised learning method using SVM model with linear, and nonlinear poly and RBF kernals to predict the outcome of the game against particular side by grouping the players at different levels in the order of play for both the teams. The comparison among different groups of players at same level gives the order of groups which contributes to winning probability. we also propose to develop a system which recommends a player for a specific role in a team by considering the past performances. we achieve this by finding the similar players by clustering all the players using k-means clustering and finding the five nearest players using k nearest neighbor (KNN) classifier. We calculate the ranking index for players using the game and players statistics extracted from a particular tournament. Experimental results demonstrate that, the n-dimensional data considered for modeling is not linearly separable. Hence the nonlinear SVM with RBF kernel outperforms from the linear and poly kernel. SVM with RFB kernel yields the accuracy of 75, precision of 83.5 and recall rate of 62.5. So we recommend the use of SVM with RBF kernel for game outcome prediction.
