This study aims to clarify how ecolodge entrepreneurship evolves from idea formation to ecolodge establishment in emerging markets. The related process affects authentic ecolodge development. The research employed grounded theory to explore this process and its implications to examine for the first time how individuals enter the ecolodge industry in an emerging market. The interaction of four constructs (namely drivers, motives, context, and idea sources) explains the costs and benefits that ecolodge entrepreneurs perceive in entering this industry. Moreover, we develop a new typology of tourism entrepreneurs in an ecolodge context based on the combined approach. Entrepreneurs are classified into three segments, including ecolodge lovers, cool job seekers, and young detached entrepreneurs. Although the ecolodge lovers were most in line with the principles of sustainable tourism and most likely to set up authentic ecolodges, most of the entrepreneurs belonged to the other two clusters. The explored process and typology highlight coordinated action in the development of ecolodges.

Os Parques Nacionais (PARNAs) podem ser considerados um dos principais atrativos naturais turísticos no mundo. Concessões de serviços de uso público em áreas protegidas se tornaram importante instrumento contratual nas parcerias público-privadas; consequência de um cenário de sucateamento de serviços públicos, de negligência e falta de investimentos públicos nas atividades de gestão, administração, conservação e manutenção das áreas naturais. Nos últimos anos, a gestão pública ampliou o número de projetos de concessão para alavancar o fluxo de visitantes, e foram desenvolvidos estudos técnicos para analisar casos de parques com concessões no mundo e como esses modelos poderiam se adequar à realidade brasileira. Assim, o objetivo deste artigo foi identificar modelos de concessão em PARNAs brasileiros, buscando compreender o panorama de parcerias público-privadas que utilizam a concessão como instrumento legal de gestão das unidades. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, de caráter descritivo, com pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, que buscou sistematizar, analisar e interpretar dados encontrados sobre processos licitatórios de concessão e modelos adotados em PARNAs. Foram identificadas sete unidades em território nacional, com onze contratos baseados em modelos de concessão de uso da área pública para melhoria da infraestrutura e prestação de serviços de apoio à visitação, com foco na melhoria da operacionalização e gestão das atividades turísticas.

Investigating Environmental Transgressions at Corbett Tiger Reserve, India

Through a qualitative lens involving both in-depth interviews and focus groups, this research attempts to probe the issues of environmental transgressions caused by tourists and tourism providers in one of the oldest and largest national parks in India, the Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR), Uttrakhand. It reveals that even though tourism stakeholders are conscious of environmental transgressions, concrete efforts towards environmentally sustainable practices in CTR do not seem to be a priority. Nevertheless, this research suggests that visitor's noncompliant behavior may be altered by enhancing place attachment through repeat visitations, improving visitor experiences, and effective information dissemination. Also, future tourism operations may require a reduction in environmental transgressions through the creation of an agency that can assist community-based tourism operations.
