A Mathematical Modelling and Optimization Approach for a Maritime Facility Location Transshipment Problem

Abstract: This paper presents an optimization based mathematical modelling approach for a single source single destination crude oil facility location transshipment problem. We began by formulating a mixed-integer nonlinear programming model and use a rolling horizon heuristic to find an optimal location for a storage facility within a restricted continuous region. We next design a hybrid two-stage algorithm that combines judicious facility locations resulting from the proposed model into a previously developed column g… Show more

“…Collaborations are also discussed by Stank et al (2001). An integrated mathematical model of optimal location for transshipment facility in a single source-destination vessel scheduling and transportation-inventory problem was proposed by Al-Yakoob and Sherali (2018). The authors' hybrid proposal finds a set of cost-effective facility locations and that the use of these locations reduces costs (e.g.…”

“…This decision implies the study of the conditions that surround the distribution of a specific product, such as the location space, the characteristics of the facilities (quality), the customer choice rule, and additional constraints imposed by the firm, or by the local administration. The combination of all these factors will give rise to different competitive location models that will need a different study and the use of different techniques to solve them (see Eiselt et al, 1993Eiselt et al, , 2015Friesz et al, 1988;Plastria, 2001;Revelle and Eiselt, 2005;Al-Yakoob and Sherali, 2018).…”
