This paper presents a wideband circularly polarized (CP) connected parallel slot array that basing on the Wheeler's infinite current sheet concept. The proposed wideband CP array composes orthogonally arranged equivalent magnetic currents with approximately 90 • phase difference. Connected parallel slot structure is adopted here to obtain low active input impedance of the array unit cell and realizes good impedance matching without using any extra balun. Shorted microstrip lines and curved phase shift line are used as the feeding. Furthermore, to avoid the backing radiation and keep unidirectional radiation, a metal reflector is added below the array aperture. Then, the connected slot shapes were modified to expand both the impedance and axial ratio (AR) bandwidth. From simulation, the infinite array achieves approximately 3.18:1 impedance bandwidth (from 1.57 to 5 GHz) with active VSWR ≤ 3 and 2.4:1 AR bandwidth (from 1.64 to 3.93 GHz) with AR ≤ 3 dB. A 4 × 4 CP connected parallel slot array was designed, fabricated and measured to verify the design concept. The measured results reveal a wideband CP performance and unidirectional radiation. Benefiting from the utilization of the backing reflector, the front-back-ratio of the 4 × 4 array is larger than 15 dB and the realized gain approaches the ideal aperture directivity. Analyzing and Optimizing the EIRP of a Phase-Tunable Amplifier-Antenna Array

We analyze the performance of an amplifier-antenna array by using separately measured amplifier load-pull data and antenna S-parameters and port-specific radiation patterns. We show that the effective isotropic radiated power (EIRP) of the system can be improved by using phase values which differ from progressive phase shift. Maximum EIRP improvement is 1.1 dB in certain steer directions and over 0.5 dB improvement over a large beamsteering range was measured when compared to using the progressive phase-shift envelope.INDEX TERMS Phased array antennas, load pull, active phased arrays, phase shifters, beam forming.

This study proposes a design of a low-profile ultra wide-band cylindrical antenna array with plus/minus 45-degree dual polarization. The proposed compact cylindrical antenna array produces an omnidirectional radiation pattern in the azimuth plane to cover all directions. It consists of 20 × 4 dualpolarized elements within a diameter of 131 mm and a height of 116 mm. The array elements are tightly coupled slant-polarized wideband dipole antennas, and hence, rotational symmetry of radiation patterns in the horizontal plane is achieved for the two orthogonal polarizations. Furthermore, a metasurface structure has been designed and placed over the interconnected array elements to achieve ultrawideband capabilities. The proposed array provides less than −10 dB reflection coefficient over a frequency band between 1.7 GHz and 5.9 GHz. The cross-polarization discrimination (XPD) is 15 dB at boresight in the azimuth plane. The electromagnetic characteristics of the cylindrical array and its corresponding planar array before bending have been evaluated and compared via simulations, and verified by measurements. The compact size, lightweight, and printable design of the proposed antenna array enable low-cost manufacturing and ease of installation. The proposed array design overcomes many challenges encountered in wide-band MIMO systems by covering the entire sub-6 GHz band while providing wide 360-degree coverage in the azimuth plane, hence, supporting multibeam applications.INDEX TERMS Cylindrical arrays, frequency selective surfaces, phased arrays, planar arrays, ultrawideband antennas.
