The aim of this study is to present the importance of interdisciplinary treatment approaches for the patients with clefts. In this study, the treatment of four patients with cleft lip and palate were presented. After the completion of fixed orthodontic treatment, proper overjet and overbite relationships were achieved and to obtain the esthetic and functional results, two of the patients had prosthodontic treatment (one of them has removable appliance and another has fixed partial denture). Two of the patients had composite restoration on lateral incisors. Patients with cleft lip and palate require interdisciplinary treatment approaches. Functional occlusion and good dental esthetics can be achieved with a team approach, well-established diagnosis and correct treatment plan.

Dudak ve/ya damak yarıkları (DDY) kraniyofasiyal bölgenin en sık görülen doğumsal defektlerinden biridir. Yumuşak ve sert dokuları her üç boyutta etkileyen bu anomali, büyüme ve kraniyofasiyal yapıların hareketiyle dördüncü bir boyut da kazanır. Anne karnında teşhis edildiği an itibariyle başlayan, oral bölgeyle sınırlı görünüp vücudun diğer pek çok bölgesini etkileyen bu anomali hem DDY'li birey hem de aile için zorlu ve uzun bir süreçtir. Bu bireylerde sıklıkla rastlanan problemler; beslenme problemleriyle ilişkili büyüme ve gelişim anomalileri, solunum problemleri, orta kulak enfeksiyonları, konuşma ve öğrenme problemleri, normalden sapmış nazomaksiller, pterygomaksiller ve farengeal anatomi ile ilişkili problemler, maksiller sinüs oluşumunda görülen problemler ve sinüzit, dental problemler, tükürük yapısındaki farklılıklar, oral ve nazal halitozis, oral kandida kolonizasyonu, oral hijyen ve periodontal sağlıkla ilgili problemler, psikolojik ve nörolojik problemler ve DDY'nin eşlik ettiği diğer anomalilerdir. Bireyin gerek yaşamsal fonksiyonlarını gerekse de hayat kalitesini önemli ölçüde etkileyen bu problemlere yönelik doğru ve etkili bir tedavi yaklaşımı sunabilmek için hekimin görülmesi muhtemel bütün doğumsal ve gelişimsel anomalilere hâkim olması gerekir. Anahtar kelimeler:Dudak yarığı, tavşan dudak, damak yarığı, doğumsal anomaliler, gelişimsel anomaliler SUMMARY Cleft lip and/or palate (CL/P) is one of the most frequently-seen congenital malformations of the craniofacial region. Affecting both hard and soft tissues in all 3 dimensions, CL/P achieves a fourth dimension with growth and displacement of the craniofacial structures. Although it seems to be limited with the orofacial region, it affects many other body parts and is a very compelling and lasting period starting with the prenatal diagnosis. Common problems encountered in these patients are growth and developmental anomalies associated with nutritional problems, respiratory problems, otitis media, speech and learning disorders, problems related with abnormal nasomaxillary, pterygomaxillary and pharengeal anatomies, maxillary sinus malformation and sinusitis, dental problems, differences in saliva composition, oral and nasal halitosis, oral candidiasis, problems with oral hygiene and periodontal health, psychological and neurological problems, and CL/P-accompanied anomalies. Therefore, it is mandatory to have a solid grasp of all the potential congenital and developmental anomalies affecting the CL/P patient's quality of life besides vital functions, in order to offer an accurate and effective health service.

Objective Non‐syndromic tooth agenesis (NSTA) may share common genetic factors with non‐syndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate (NSCL/P). Single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were associated with individual's susceptibility to these anomalies. We selected five NSCL/P‐associated SNPs from our previous genome‐wide association study (GWAS) to test for the associations with NSTA. Materials and methods A total of 677 NSTA cases and 1,144 healthy controls were recruited in this case–control study. Five genome‐wide NSCL/P‐associated SNPs (rs2235371, rs7078160, rs8049367, rs4791774, and rs13041247) were genotyped by TaqMan platform and evaluated for the associations with NSTA using plink software. Results No significant associations between these SNPs and risk of NSTA were observed in the overall analysis and subgroup analysis with the number of missing teeth. However, in the subgroup analysis by tooth position, rs8049367 was nominally associated with mandibular premolar agenesis (Dominant model: ORdom = 0.66, 95% CIdom = 0.47–0.93, pdom = 0.016; Heterozygote model: ORhet = 0.60, 95% CIhet = 0.41–0.88, Phet = 0.008). Rs4791774 showed a nominal association with congenitally missing maxillary canine (Dominant model: ORdom = 0.53, 95% CIdom = 0.28–0.98, pdom = 0.041; Heterozygote model: ORhet = 0.50, 95% CIhet = 0.26–0.97, Phet = 0.041) and premolar (Additive model: OR = 0.59, 95% CI = 0.36–0.96, p = 0.035). Conclusion This study showed that NSCL/P susceptible loci rs8049367 and rs4791774 were probably associated with the risk of NSTA.
